HOW TO KNIT IN THE ROUND WITH DOUBLE POINTED NEEDLES (DPNS)
By Johnny Vasquez
This video knitting tutorial will help you learn how to knit in the round with double pointed needles.
These are used when knitting with a circular needle is too difficult, particularly for smaller projects like the crown of a hat, mittens, or gloves.
They are special because you can knit from either end.
Also known as: DPNs
Skill: intermediate
Step 1: Cast on your desired number of stitches onto a set of straight needles.
Step 2: Transfer the stitches evenly to your double pointed needles, being careful not to twist them. Use one less needle than is in your set of DPN’s
Step 3: Add an additional stitch, removing the first stitch in the round, and placing the new stitch over the first stitch. Put the first stitch back on the needle.
Step 4: Using the spare needle, work the stitch off the first needle in your round. Once all the stitches have been worked, use the newly empty needle as your working needle. Repeat all the way around.
