Crochet Cords

There are many different methods and techniques of knitting cords, which are used not only as a functional piece of clothing or accessory, but also as a decoration.
Consider a few basic types of knitting cords, as well as reception decorations cords knitted fabric with braids.

Knitting needles cords:

5. The flat cord with knots. Type in the spokes of the three loops, the first row of knit facial loops, turn the work *, remove the first loop (the thread of the work), the second and third loop knit facial, repeat from * to the desired length of the cord.

Today we are making an i-cord bind-off. The little cord will be shaped along the bind-off edge.

At the end of your work or swatch, on the right side and just before starting the bind-off, cast on 3 extra stitches.

*Knit 2 sts.

Do an ssk. This will use the last of the 3 extra stitches for the i-cord, and the first stitch to be bound off in your work

Slip the stitches one by on from the right hand needle to the left hand needle.

Repeat from * until all the stitches of your work have been cast off, except the last one.

There are 4 stitches on the left hand needle.

Repeat once more from * to bind off the last stitch. You have the 3 i-cord stitches left.

Bind off the 3 stitches.

This is a combination of I-Cord cast on and bind off such that the fabric appears uninterrupted except for a horizontal I-Cord.

At the beginning of a RS row, cast on 3 stitches.

*Kfb, k1, k2tog, slip last 3 sts back onto LH needle, repeat from * to end of row.

In the pictures below, the I-Cord is knit in a contrasting colour. There is no reason why you can’t use the same yarn throughout, this was just for demonstration purposes.

1.- Start on the RS

2. Cast on 3 sts

3.- Knit front and back

4. Now knit 1

5.- K2Tog through the back loop

6.- Pass 3 sts to the end of row

7.- Continue to end of row

8.- Continue as before

You will have added 3 or 4 extra sts (depending when you stopped). On the next row, slip the extra sts over the following st to get back to the correct number of stitches for your pattern.

The sts on the needle after making the I-Cord tend to be loose. You can tighten them up by twisting the stitches as you work them.
